woke up from my deep slumber after weekend camp i held for my scouts.. its was great as we hit our objectives of what we wanted at the end of the days. I enjoyed myself throughly at the camp and appreciate all the help coming from the SPLs, venture and most importantly the rovers.
At the first day, the scouts did their respective flag to stay with them throughout the camp. It's heartening to see the scouts taking effort and pride in doing juz a simple flag, to outsiders it might look like a piece of rag. To me, its my boys' hardwork. then we proceed to several games. Human chain, poison ball, commando tag, War games like they have to make a tank using tables n chairs and groundsheet to armour themselves while others threw baseball gloves, paper balls, basketball at their tank to prevent them from reaching their target. its darn funny to see my boys squeeze themselves inside the table but its heartwarming to see them helping one another to guard the tank and it hit one of my objectives. Teamwork. We set off to the City Hall to play Serene's CBD amazing race. Woh...its my first time playing this sort race game cos usually i'm the one organising it so its a pretty new experience. i really liked it alot! enjoyed it throughly.. i learn new places around the CBD area, especially shenton way.. Serene, thank you so much for the effort you put into the game. though i'm disgusted by the rover's resignation of the game, its great to hear the scouts want to go on with the game even though they knew they given a choice to give up and return back to camp. Then we went back from Esplanade around 8 plus then proceed on to Commando Raid in the school. Its a advanced version of our primary school's memories of "catching". plus there's a torture chamber in the toilet when you are caught. the torturer will put coffee powder and toothpast all over the prisoner body and its darn funny to see the boys runnign aroudn the school like abroginees. Then had a unexpected but pleasant surprise. oscar, elmo, and bert actually contemplate a bday celebration for me. they tell me sumthing happen in the torture chamber so that got me worried as i dunnoe how i'm going to answer to the boys' parent if anything bad happen to them. once i enter the toilet, i was ambushed with toothpaste smeared over me and cold water drenched over me. someone even squeeze half a tube of toothpaste into my ass. wait till i find out who's that bugger, he's gonna get it. anyway toothpaste in your ass really sucks. it "bites" you every second, maybe its retribution of me used to going round biting everyone. After wash-up, the boys took their shower and head to bed not knowing the castrophic and life changing event that's goign to happen to them. Night Harassment. It's sumthing new to the boys and its a event to reinforce on discpline that's all. basically, its more like a takan session. Me and Bert staged a fire drill at about 1 plus. i rang the bronze bell in the middle of their bunk and took everyone by surprise. and the rest of it is history. they boys return to slp about 3 plus. you don't wanna know what we did in that period of time. Second day of camp was the most draining day of the camp. Its my first time i've been to Punggol End. Its my first time chopping down a tree using a parang. its my first time starting a fire by myself using the tree's parts. poor tree, at least its been given a proper cremation. The scouts hike to Punggol End and have their outdoor cooking over there. we taught them to do "stripped" a tree, used its limb as fuel to cook their food. We cooked food without using utensils. we used the coconut to cook rice, orange to cook a egg and a stick to bbq a fish and chicken. though most food taste of ashes and sand, it taste great. cos it contain lots of hardwork to juz cook these food. my boys sweat and my blood. i cut myself while chopping down the tree. We're sunkissed after the whole session and its damn cute.. everyone look like lobsters except chaohong.. who looks more like a bbq pig. oops... Third day of camp was really short. the main event will be the water bomb session. boys are always be boys. those who tend to act cool in the camp, were all giggling like litle boys while playing the game. it's like watching a sadistic comedy seeing the boys bombing each other. My respect for Gim Hui deepened after this camp. He really showed me what he is made of. Now i undestand the calibre of a president scout and the army can mould someone. he's the man of steel in the camp and the discpline master aka as the devil of the camp. He at least struck the boys with more than 200 push-ups. HE had created his legacy too. there's two phrase that he keep using while discplining the boys, "you give me standard, i give you welfare" and the phrase that knocks fear in all the boys. "the whole lot of you" cos after this phrase what follows is "knock it down!" I really appreciate the bday surprise planned for me. I'm not that sure who's the people behind the scene but i'm really thankful and grateful to the people who thought of this sweet gesture. and this is to serene's mum, your choc fudge cake is heavenly. i had it for breakfast, tea and dinnner(desert). i really mean it. its all this things that keep my passion going for scouting or should i say for Yeung Ching.
